Outreach to Benefit from John Brower, Jr. Foundation 7th Annual Heroes Against Heroin Walk

Wednesday, August 17, 2022. The John Brower, Jr. Foundation will host its 7th annual Heroes Against Heroin Walk on Saturday, September 10, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Jones Beach State Park, Parking Field 1 (check-in will begin at 9:00 a.m.).

The Walk, begun in 2015, was established to raise awareness of drug abuse and help raise funds to end the opioid epidemic on Long Island and, specifically, support the life-saving treatment programs at Outreach and other organizations.

Outreach and the Brower Foundation established a partnership in 2014, after the Brower family tragically lost their son John Jr. to an opioid overdose. In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be sent to Outreach. Since then, the Brower family, led by John Jr.’s parents John Sr. and Jody and their children Kristen and Robert, have been on a mission to prevent lives from being taken by the opioid epidemic.

About the Event

Though the mission and message of the Walk may be somber, the 5K event is a family friendly day, full of fun and healthy exercise.

“The focus of this day is always on positivity and hope,” said Debra Pantin, President and CEO of Outreach. “Our goal is to keep awareness high and to help families and neighbors on Long Island struggling with addiction to take a path toward health and wellness.”

The walk begins with inspiring information to educate walkers about substance and alcohol use disorders on Long Island and a tribute to the memory of John Brower, Jr. and peers who we have lost to the opioid epidemic. The 5K journey down the historic Jones Beach Boardwalk is a celebration that brings meaning to the idea that “where there’s a walk, there’s a way!” Every step makes a difference in giving back and paying forward.
