Women Leading Mental Health Conversations

As Women’s History Month comes to a close, it’s important to recognize not only the history of women’s contributions, but also the voices actively shaping the future. In the field of mental health, women continue to lead conversations that make care more accessible, relatable, and grounded in real-life experiences.

Through education, advocacy, and community engagement, today’s leaders are helping individuals better understand their emotional well-being while encouraging more open and supportive discussions around mental health and recovery.

This week, Outreach is proud to highlight three women whose work is helping change how mental health is talked about and supported.

Dr. Diana Hill, Ph.D. — Building Emotional Flexibility and Resilience

Dr. Diana Hill is a clinical psychologist and expert in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), an approach that focuses on building psychological flexibility and helping individuals navigate difficult thoughts and emotions.

Through her work, Dr. Hill provides practical tools that help individuals manage stress, anxiety, and life transitions. Her approach encourages people to develop resilience by accepting emotions rather than avoiding them, while still moving toward meaningful goals.

By translating therapeutic concepts into everyday strategies, Dr. Hill makes mental health care more approachable and actionable for a wide audience.

Dr. Ayanna Abrams, Psy.D. — Advancing Trauma-Informed and Culturally Responsive Care

Dr. Ayanna Abrams is a licensed clinical psychologist and speaker whose work focuses on trauma, stress, and culturally responsive mental health care. She is committed to expanding access to care and ensuring that mental health services reflect the diverse experiences of the communities they serve.

Dr. Abrams emphasizes the importance of resilience and accessible support, particularly for individuals who may face barriers to care. Through her advocacy and outreach, she continues to promote mental health awareness and encourage individuals to seek support without stigma.

Her work reinforces the importance of meeting people where they are and providing care that is both inclusive and empowering.

Minaa B., LMSW — Centering Community, Boundaries, and Emotional Wellness

Minaa B. is a licensed therapist, speaker, and mental health advocate who focuses on relationships, boundaries, and emotional wellness. Her work emphasizes the importance of community care and the role that relationships play in overall mental health.

Through her writing, speaking, and online presence, Minaa B. encourages honest conversations about emotional needs, self-worth, and the importance of setting boundaries. She helps individuals recognize that mental health is not only an individual journey, but also one shaped by connection and support.

Her approach highlights that healing happens not only through therapy, but also through strong, healthy relationships and community understanding.

Why These Conversations Matter

The work of these leaders reflects a broader shift in how mental health is understood today. Conversations are becoming more open, more inclusive, and more integrated into everyday life.

This shift is helping to:

  • Reduce stigma around mental health and substance use
  • Encourage individuals to seek support earlier
  • Make mental health education more accessible
  • Strengthen connections between individuals and their communities

When people feel seen, heard, and understood, they are more likely to engage in care and continue their journey toward recovery and wellness.
