Prior to becoming a counselor, I was an assistant production manager in the garment industry. It was a career that was interesting and cool, but I felt a void – as though I was meant for something greater. As a person in recovery, I wanted to make a difference in people’s lives. I am now, thanks to my training at the Outreach Training Institute (OTI).

In my opinion, OTI is the “Harvard” of CASAC training. The trainers, advisors and curriculum are what set OTI apart from the rest. The trainers are gifted in their areas of expertise and embody the true essence of an addiction professional. For me, it was imperative to learn the distinction between a professional role and my personal experience to be an effective counselor. A transition needed to happen and when it did, it was a powerful thing. The OTI faculty taught me just what I needed to know to be successful and effective in the substance abuse field.

OTI’s comprehensive curriculum, including the post-module testing, ensures that students learn the material, are well prepared for the CASAC test, and pass the CASAC credentialing exam the very first time they take it, just as I did.

I am honored and privileged to be a graduate of OTI. It is an experience I will never forget. What I’ve learned about life, self and how to help others is invaluable.
