Outreach also has a sliding fee schedule and no client will be turned away from services based solely on their inability to pay or if/because payment for services would be made under Medicare, Medicaid, or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). Families

Building Healthy Families

We understand the life-altering obstacles and challenges that substance abuse brings to families. When Outreach opened its doors in 1981, our first clients were adolescents – and, by extension, their family members. Today, families continue to be our strength with 3,000 individuals and families treated and cared for each year.

Anyone – regardless of age, cultural background or socioeconomic status – can be affected by alcohol or drugs. Outreach customizes an age-appropriate, self-help model for the individual and involves family members in the process to improve the chances of a lifelong recovery.

Outreach’s treatment approach addresses real issues and life challenges. Our recovery-focused environment protects from the negative influences and stresses of daily life. Through our sessions, clients learn the skills and tools they need for a successful life in recovery. Our highly-credentialed, quality-focused and always accessible staff ensure families receive the specialized care they need.

Outreach delivers tailored programs for adolescents, adults, women, women with children, DUI/DWI offenders, and more. Our services mirror the diversity of our clients, with a few locations offering programming in Spanish and Polish.

We consider the health of the whole family to ensure long-term, life-changing solutions. Available programs include:

  • Individual, group and family counseling and treatment
  • Personalized adolescent residential and outpatient care
  • Adult outpatient services with vocational services for those who are job-seeking or looking to retain their jobs
  • Gender-specific, family-focused treatment and supportive services for women in recovery
  • State-of-the-art, attractive facilities where clients feel safe and cared for

Conveniently located throughout Queens, Brooklyn and Long Island, programs are easily accessed by public or private transport. Outreach is an approved Medicaid and Medicare provider, and participates in multiple insurance networks. For the uninsured, fees are assessed on a sliding scale based on income and family size.

Justice System

Access. Assessment. Admissions.

Working with New York’s justice system remains one of Outreach’s most important community efforts. Research shows that evidence-based treatment can help reduce recidivism among non-violent criminal offenders with substance use disorder. Our drug and alcohol treatment programs exceed New York State standards in retention and completion. Outreach prioritizes relationships with justice entities including Probation, Parole, the Courts, and more.

Working with Outreach is a seamless, efficient experience. We accept both mandated referrals and voluntary clients. Our credentialed, professional staff expertly handles complex cases. Quickly and conveniently, we assess the needs of the defendant, expertly providing:

  • Initial phone screenings, with appointments offered within 48 hours
  • Individualized evaluations
  • On-site DUI/DWI screenings and assessments

Adolescents and adults are treated in the communities where they live or work. Outreach has a network of state-of-the-art outpatient treatment facilities for adolescents and adults in Brooklyn, Queens, and Long Island. Adolescent residential treatment facilities provide a more intensive treatment protocol. Easily accessed by public or private transit, our programs feature continuing care services to encourage a successful life of recovery.

Community-based adolescent residential programs are a highly effective alternative to juvenile detention or imprisonment. Outreach is highly regarded for its pioneering work with at-risk or substance-using adolescents (ages 12-17). Based on our evaluations, teenagers may qualify for our adolescent residential treatment programs in New York City and on Long Island. Referrals come from all New York City boroughs and Long Island counties.

We address all life challenges during treatment. We treat the whole person, not just the addiction. We consider the patient’s mental health, domestic violence and anger management issues. Critical to treatment is the health of the entire family so we involve loved ones in the treatment plan.

Our treatment philosophy respects cultural and gender differences and values. We pay special attention to our clients’ cultural backgrounds with responsive programming in English, Spanish, and Polish. Additionally, Outreach provides gender-specific, family-focused treatment and supportive services for women and women with children.

Justice officials receive timely reports and communication about their referrals under our care. We produce prompt status reports, using the approved and appropriate State and local reporting systems. Updates are regularly communicated to justice referents provided appropriate releases that are in accordance with Federal Confidentiality and other pertinent laws have been obtained.

Community Partners

Building Healthy Communities.

Outreach partners with local community partners and policymakers to help build healthy lives and rebuild communities impacted by substance abuse. Through our mutual vision, we work together to identify gaps in treatment. As community needs evolve, we evolve with them, building new services and programs that bring our high-quality treatment and training to their neighborhoods.

Relationships are the foundation of our work with communities. We constantly work with schools, churches, businesses, unions, veteran’s organizations, legislators, community-based service groups and others to mutually understand how our treatment and training specialties can enhance the lives of their constituents. Outreach’s senior leadership are expert resources contributing to public and policy forums, legislative hearings, as well as professional and community organizations and planning bodies.

Four decades ago, Outreach responded to a growing need in New York’s communities, establishing intensive residential substance abuse treatment for adolescents at Outreach House I in NYC. No other program like it existed at that time. Our pioneering approach struck a chord with local policymakers. We were asked to build another adolescent residential treatment program. Seven years later, we opened the doors to Outreach House II to serve Long Island.

There are numerous other examples of how Outreach answers community needs. We have worked with local government, policymaker and community representatives to build and offer:

  • Specialized programs for at-risk and court-involved youth
  • Alternative school programs that treat alongside full educational days
  • Responsive, multilingual programming in Spanish and Polish at select sites
  • Outreach Training Institute, the leading center in New York dedicated to educating professionals in addiction treatment

Recovery from addiction takes one day at a time. When clients return to their communities again, they do so with renewed health and a sense of hope that strengthens neighborhoods and rebuilds lives again.
